On June 5th, REWA Purulia celebrated World Environment Day by planting over 200 saplings alongside local students and community members — turning an awareness day into a tangible, lasting action rather than a symbolic one.
The planting drive was organized as a hands-on community event, with students taking part directly in digging, planting, and caring for the young trees, rather than simply attending a talk about environmental sustainability.
How REWA Made an Impact
This initiative aimed to make sustainability personal for the young people involved — giving them a direct hand in building a greener future rather than hearing about it secondhand in a classroom setting. Trees planted by a student tend to be trees a student continues to care about.
By combining education with physical action, REWA reinforced a lesson central to all its environmental work: awareness alone doesn’t change outcomes, but hands-on participation does — and it tends to build habits that outlast the event itself.
