Road Safety & Radium Sticker Drive

October 2

Carelessness on the road doesn’t just bounce back — it shatters lives, and it’s often the most preventable accidents that cause the most damage. On October 2nd, timed around Gandhi Jayanti, REWA volunteers will fan out across low-income neighborhoods in Bangalore to distribute free radium stickers to cyclists and two-wheeler riders.

The idea is simple but effective: a reflective sticker on a bicycle’s rear mudguard dramatically improves visibility for oncoming traffic after dark, especially on unlit roads where night-time cycling accidents are common. Alongside the sticker distribution, volunteers will also lead a short awareness talk on night-time road safety — covering practical habits like wearing light-colored clothing and avoiding unlit shortcuts.

This event continues an initiative REWA has run consistently in Purulia, now expanding to Bangalore neighborhoods where similar risks exist. It reflects something the team has learned repeatedly: the most effective community interventions aren’t always the most expensive ones — sometimes it’s a five-rupee sticker that prevents a life-altering accident.

Volunteers are welcome to join for the full route or just a portion of it. No prior experience is needed — just comfortable walking shoes and a willingness to talk to strangers about something that matters.
